ABOUT the time when Iowa was invested with the dignity of a territorial organization; to-wit., about the year 1838, there was born among the Sioux, whose bands then held undisputed possession of all the northern portion of the Territory, a child whose recent career has distinguished him as one of the most remarkable representatives of his race. We refer to that bold, defiant and indomitable savage whose name has been translated to us as Sitting Bull, and whose acts and movements since the spring of 1876 have engrossed so large a share of the attention of a great nation. As the leader of the savage bands which he has been able to call around him, he has succeeded in making a mark upon his time which the historian will be obliged to recognize.
